Sweet Shabbat by the Sea

By the Sea 0546Every Sabbath on City Island is special — but some are more unique than others. Such is the case with our Annual Shabbat by the Sea. And this year was no exception.

Once again, Ken and Steve have offered their lovely waterfront patio and lawn as the site of this year’s Shabbat by the Sea. And the breeze coming over the water ameliorated the intense heat that plagued the city. Plus it came with a beautiful sunset over Eastchester Bay that complimented the service.

Actually, our record for beautiful sunsets over the water has been pretty good (in this writer’s memory). I recall only two “rainouts” in the past 10 years when we had to conduct our outdoor service indoors.

Dancing2173Many people came early to help set up (and then later take down) the chairs and equipment needed for the service. And the hosts — Ken and Steve — provided a most delectable oneg in honor of their marriage last year.  All in all, it was a smoothly run and very satisfying “religious” evening. So this former president says thanks to all — to the nearly 50 people who attended, to those who helped and especially to our wonderful clergy and shul band!
