If you experienced Shabbat by the Sea 2016, (on Friday evening, August 26th,) you sensed a bit of what Jewish mystics meant in calling Shabbat a “taste of the world to come.” The weather was glorious, the sunset sublimely timed, the setting and hospitality beautiful. Strangers became friends lingering under the stars past midnight, many clad in mystical white. Every Shabbat should be so awesome. It was described by many as a sunset musical service unlike anything else.
A TBE-record 120 souls joined at the home of Ken Binder & Steve Roth, who generously offered their backyard and hearts. Rabbi Rachel Barenblat (shown above) began the evening with spiritual poetry. Rabbi Shohama and Rabbi David led Shabbat with our Band by the Sea (Bob Berent, Alan Dattner, Steve Gottlieb, Monty Renov). The event brought people from upstate, Long Island, the Deep South and California.
